First Christmas FAIL

I love Christmas.  I was super excited for the holidays this year now that Lulu is here.  But things just haven't been the same around here since Turkey Day; I haven't been myself and my focus has been elsewhere.  And that makes me feel like the worst momma in the world.  Sure, Lulu doesn't have a clue what all this decorative crap is in our living room...

Or why I spent two hours hot gluing and perfecting these (FREAKIN' ADORABLE) Santa Hats.

And this Ornament Wreath.

Other than the heavenly aromas coming from the kitchen, she doesn't get to reap the benefit of Christmas Baking.  She doesn't get to partake in the tree trimming or hanging lights.  It doesn't make a difference to her if we're at Zoo Lights, Glendale Glitters, or the gas station in town.

I guess what I'm saying is, I felt obligated to give Lucy Lu the very best, most festive Christmas humanly possible.  And instead, I didn't get the tree up (and fully decorated) until last week; I didn't take her to see Santa (yet!); I didn't make a Christmas Tree painting with her feet or a Christmas Countdown Chain.  I didn't do enough.

Eh, who cares?  I'm wearing baby boots.
That's all that matters.

  1. Luckily for you there is always next year, and more after that. These kiddos of ours will be sticking around awhile! ;)

  2. I vote that anyone who creates santa hats like that has absolutely NOT failed. Also, can you help me make one of those ornament wreaths next year? I love them!

  3. @Jen - That's what I keep telling myself...next year will be 100x better!

@Meg - Thank you for that vote of confidence, my dear. And you know I'm always game for a little crafting!

  4. Oh lady do I feel you! E hasn't seen Santa yet either- want to have a "last minute maddness dash to Santa with every other person in town"? My plan is to take her tomorrow if we escape vomiting all day (we've had none of the others!)

Anyway because of the above items, our Christmas hasn't been as pristine and amazing as I envisioned it- but it's been filled with love, and I know you're full of love for your family and Lulu, which is all she needs to know about Christmas, after all, that is what it's all about.

P.S I'd also love to learn the ornament wreath :)

  5. @Jenn - You've at least had reason to be less than festive this year! But you are absolutely right, the season is about family time and lots of lovin'. *hugs*

Ladies, we need to plan a wreath making gtg next year!

  6. Taylor my dear, from what I can see you have not failed. Lucy doesn’t know Christmas is just a few short days away. It’s ok if the tree wasn’t up till last week, it’s ok if you didn’t get things done as planned. She will be loved and surrounded by family on this lovely day and that is all that matters. You have not failed.

I’d love to learn the wreath too. Almost did it but didn’t find a wire hanger. Oh well, there is always next year.

    Merry Christmas!

And you are more than welcome to join in on the wreath making festivities. :-)

  8. Don't give yourself such a hard time - your decoration blows ours away! And our Christmas tree/Hanukkah bush :) is driving me crazy because J is obsessed with it. I almost wish we didn't have one...

  9. Taylor, it sounds to me like you did enough... you just didn't DO IT ALL. As an older reader, again, may I share that no one does it all, and if you've got a picture in your head of what "it all" is, you're probably a perfectionist, and as much as one perfectionist loves another, I'm telling you.... "enough" is enough! "IT ALL" is totally over-rated.

Your decorations are beautiful, but your daughter is even more so. I bet she smiled big time when you said Merry Christmas to her this morning and that lit up your home bigger and brighter than Zoolights or Glendale Glitters.

I love your blog. Now stop being so hard on yourself!
